Intravascular balloon embolization of a carotid-ophthalmic artery aneurysm with preservation of the parent vessel.

چکیده
It is now technically possible to treat intracranial aneurysms from a trans vascular approach by balloon embolization therapy. If the aneurysm has a neck, a detachable silicone balloon can be guided into the aneurysm, inflated to occlude the neck and dome, and detached. We are thus able to exclude the aneurysm from the circulation and preserve the parent vessel. In patients who have failed standard neurosurgical approaches to clipping, this may provide an alternative therapeutic technique.

Endovascular treatment of ophthalmic artery aneurysms: assessing balloon test occlusion and preservation of vision in coil embolization.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE ICA-ophthalmic artery aneurysms have unique configurations corresponding to relative risks of ophthalmologic morbidities. Presented herein are clinical and radiologic outcomes of coil embolization in ophthalmic artery aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS From January 2003 to September 2013, endovascular coiling was performed in 43 consecutive patients with ophthalmic artery...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Flow-diverter technology has proved to be a safe and effective treatment for intracranial aneurysm based on the concept of flow diversion allowing parent artery and collateral preservation and aneurysm healing. We investigated the patency of covered side branches and flow modification within the parent artery following placement of the Pipeline Embolization Device in the ...
متن کاملFeasibility of using intravascular ultrasonography for assessment of giant cavernous aneurysm after endovascular treatment: a technical report.
INTRODUCTION Intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) has been shown as a valuable adjunct imaging tool during endovascular procedures but its value in detection of any recurrence during follow up after endovascular coil embolization of large and giant intracranial aneurysms is not reported. METHODS A 41 years old man who had been treated using stent assisted coil embolization for cavernous segme...
متن کاملTransarterial balloon-assisted n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate embolization of direct carotid cavernous fistulas.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Transarterial detachable balloon embolization of direct carotid cavernous fistulas (DCCFs) has become an optimal treatment. In a few cases, the parent artery has to be sacrificed to achieve morphologic cure. We present our experience with transarterial balloon-assisted n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (n-BCA) embolization of DCCFs in which there was failure to achieve angiographic...
متن کاملGiant cavernous aneurysm associated with trigeminal artery: treatment by detachable balloon.
Giant aneurysms of the cavernous internal carotid artery have been technically difficult to treat by direct surgical methods because of the surrounding cavernous sinus. Previous reports have recommended treatment of these symptomatic giant aneurysms by gradual cervical carotid artery occlusion utilizing a Selverstone or Kindt clamp [1-6]. With recent technical advances it is now possible to tre...
